Development of Sustainable Carbon Cultivation Technology

We will undertake the development of sustainable biomass materials cultivation system, from the biomass production for land-based green carbon and ocean-based blue carbon to the cascade utilization and the establishment of an overall resource cycle.

Development of Carbon Cultivation-Based Materials Development Technology

We will engage in material development and conversion technology development to maximize the value of plant biomass, which is one of the most promising resources to replace various chemicals derived from fossil resources.

Development of Carbon Cultivation-Based Technologies for Producing Fuel

A medium- to long-term theme will be to develop CO2-free hydrogen production processes with biomass as raw material. In the short to medium term, we will conduct research and development on liquid fuel production processes making use of the same basic technologies.

Development of Technologies for Reducing Greenhouse Gases and Treating Wastes Generated in Carbon Cultivationn

We will develop technologies to mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide generated in biomass production. Additionally, we will work on developing techniques to effectively utilize waste in carbon farming cultivation, thereby reducing waste
volume.

Development of Evaluation Methods for Social Acceptability

We will develop a methodology for sharing the envisioned “carbon cultivation society” as an ideal for society. Particularly from the perspective of the sustainability of the local communities where the technology will be implemented, we will conduct backcasting to assess the social acceptability of the developed technologies.
